The Georgia General Assembly enacted the Ethics in Government Act in 1986. The intent of the Act is to protect the integrity of the democratic process and to ensure fair elections with the public disclosure of campaign financing and significant private interests of public officers and candidates for public office. As a result, on March 1, 1987 the State Ethics Commission was created.
